Teen drivers who have grown up with developmental issues are often referred by their pediatrician, MRC counselor or parents to determine if the driver meets basic qualifications for safe driving.

All teen drivers must have a
valid learner's permit or license to be evaluated.  All new drivers in Mass. must be road tested by the RMV for licensure.

Some teen drivers  do best with 1:1 professional driving lessons tailored to their unique learning style  or needs, versus standard  lessons offered in driving schools.

Driving age comes at a difficult time for teen with learning difficulties.  Some teens and their families make the decision to postpone driving until the late teens/ early twenties for best results and peace of mind.

Adults with medical conditions such as seizures, stroke, paralysis, brain tumor, amputation, Parkinson's Disease, Multiple Sclerosis, limb deformity, vision loss, short stature, emotional issues, mental health issues  and numerous other situations are often safe to drive with  the right adaptive equipment and proper training with adaptive methods.

Adaptations such as hand controls, left accelerator, spinner knob, crossover directional extender, key adapter, seat adjustment and additional mirrors are available.

Clients who use adaptations must be tested by the Mass RMV at the completion of the driver re-training program for licensure with mechanical aids.

Drivers who no longer have a license due to surrender, expiration, revocation or suspension are often able to regain licensure through the  OT driver evaluation process.

We  help you understand the requirements of the Massachusetts Registry of Motor Vehicles .

If you apply for a HP handicapped parking placard in Massachusetts, it may affect  your license status.

Mature drivers often self-regulate and modify their driving exposure as they age.  Others lack insight into their driving and may need to "prove" their ability to concerned family members.

Often, modifications  to driving routes and gradual reduction in driving exposure is recommended.

Taking part in an OT driver evaluation is no guarantee of a recommendation to drive.  However,it is a respectful, objective and informed method  of addressing a sensitive issue.
