To receive written materials in the mail, include the spelling of your name and  address in your correspondence.

Gather materials:
  • An MD order for "OT Driver Evaluation" is required. The prescription should contain the driver's name and reason for the evaluation, or a diagnosis.

         and forwarded to the MD for signature.           .

  • Complete the Driver Profile questionnaire about driving habits and awareness
       The driver being evaluated should complete the questionnaires without help from others...it's all part of the evaluation 
  • Provide a written list of medications taken.
  • Make a photocopy of your driver's license.
  • Determine where and when you would like to meet. Meeting generally occur  at your private home in the greater Boston area. Weekend times work best to coordinate schedules of clients and their  family member.



Important note:
On road evaluations take place according to need, location and  availability of the vehicle and certified driving instructor. Arrangements for road evaluation takes place at the conclusion of the clinical evaluation.Therefore....the clinical evaluation appointment does not include actual driving.

 

Make financial arrangements for the service requested.  Each clinical evaluation costs $275. payable by personal check, cash or money order on the day of the meeting, prior to beginning.  .

 

 Agency discounts are available when two or more evaluations occur on the same day and at the same location, such as an outpatient center, assisted living center, rectory, convent or nursing facility.  Call for details.

Judy M. Romano, MS, OTR/L

 

Judy McGowan Romano is an occupational therapist  (OTR/L) licensed by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. Judy has 25 years  of experience providing OT services to adults of all ages with medical issues. 

 

Judy was formerly at New England Rehabilitation Hospital in Woburn, where she was the Coordinator of the Driver Evaluation Program for many years.

Driving Solutions became a business in 2003, dedicated to providing confidential, in-home evaluation versus making an appointment in an unfamiliar medical setting. 

 

The emerging area of driver evaluation for elderly and special needs drivers is Judy's major  professional interest and  area of expertise.

 

As a member of The Association of Driver Rehabilitation Specialists and the American Occupational Therapy Certification Board, Judy strives to promote the best practices and up-to-date procedures available for drivers of all abilities.

 


 
 


Driving Solutions is available to clients, families, physicians, geriatric care managers, vocational counselors,  certified driving instructors, RMV personnel, assistive living coordinators, program developers,  councils on aging, school systems other OT's and healthcare professionals for consultation and inservice training.
